Marika Hackman is a name you will be hearing a lot more from over the coming months, she has just released her début double A side (limited edition of 250 copies) titled You Come Down / Mountain Spines which is already getting good exposure from the likes of Huw Stephens on BBC Radio 1 who had her in the Live Lounge last week. It is released on Paradyse Records (Transgressive Records offshoot) and was produced by Johnny Flynn and Adam Beach of The Sussex Wit. Influences from the likes of Boniver, Fleet Foxes and Sigur Ros can be heard in her music although she has a very unique sound which will stand her well. She was brought up on a diet ranging from the likes of Led Zeppelin to Joni Mitchell which has influenced her folk leaning.
You can catch her live on tour with Benjamin Francis Leftwich who is touring throughout October and she is planning another EP for late November / early December which will be produced Charlie Andrew who also produced Alt J (∆) so we’re looking forward to hearing that.
Both tracks can be heard on the Folk Radio UK playlist from today.
