Kurt Wagner & Cortney Tidwell are getting ready to unleash Kurt Wagner & Cortney Tidwell present KORT: Invariable Heartache. Two videos (see below) have been released to whet you appetite as well as an announcement of a European tour.
The video for ‘Pickin Wild Mountain Berries’ was directed and filmed on Super 8 by Zack Spiger in Seattle and Nashville. The song has been recorded by, amongst others, Conway Twitty & Loretta Lynn and Peggy Scott & Jo Jo Benson, but this version was inspired, like all but one of the songs on Invariable Heartache, by a version recorded for Chart Records, a Nashville based country label that flourished in the 1960s and 1970s, run by Cortney Tidwell’s grandfather and later A&Red by her father. Her mother, Connie Eaton, was also signed to the label, and went on to make the charts in the mid 70s.
The story behind Invariable Heartache is also told in an eloquent and moving mini documentary. ‘Bringing Chart Records Back To Life’, filmed in Nashville, again by Zack Spiger. Furthermore, those who pre-order the record from City Slang directly will receive a bonus CD containing the original recordings of the songs that inspired the album.
Kurt Wagner & Cortney Tidwell present KORT release Invariable Heartache on October 18th. They will perform publicly for the very first time on October 14th in Nashville at the intimate Bettys venue.
