Folk duo Ye Vagabonds have been planning a very ambitious and novel trip for over a year now, and soon they will take to the inland waterways of Ireland for over a month for their ‘All Boats Rise’ tour.
This Friday sees the release of a new double A-side single from Ye Vagabonds: ‘I’m a Rover and The Bothy Lads’. To celebrate, we have a video to share of them performing ‘I’m A Rover’ live on Lake Brienz, Switzerland.
Programme for Masters of Tradition announced including Donovan, Christy Moore, Steve Cooney, Cormac Begley, Ye Vagabonds, Dónal McCague, Tommy Fitzharris, Caitlín Nic Gabhann and more.
Brothers Brían and Diarmuid Mac Gloinn, best known as Ye Vagabonds, share a new video series featuring “songs we sing at home that rarely make it to the stage”.
With a repertoire ranging from raunchy to raw, wistful to utterly tragic; the show is a triumph from start to finish. Understandably, the applause continues long after Ye Vagabonds have taken their leave.
Ye Vagabonds were the big winners RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards scooping three awards. Winners also included the incredible Lisa O’Neill, Saint Sister, Zoë Conway, Iarla Ó’Lionáird as well as Moya Brennan receiving a lifetime achievement award and Margaret Barry inducted into the Hall of Fame.
River Lea is a record label run by Geoff Travis & Jeannette Lee of Rough Trade along with music journalist Tim Chipping. We chat with Tim about how the label came to be which features Lisa O’Neill, Ye Vagabonds and Brìghde Chaimbeul, all of whom have picked up BBC Folk Award nominations this year.
Our Song of the Day is “I Courted A Wee Girl” by Irish duo Ye vagabonds. The video is an excerpt from “Seven Songs On Six Islands” a documentary by Myles O’Reilly, filmed during their tour of some of Ireland’s most picturesque islands.

Coming up in July and August, folk/trad duo Ye Vagabonds are set to embark on a tour of some of Ireland’s most picturesque islands as part of a new series by Islander music company.
