Americana often conjures up words like psychedelic or cosmic, but the form rarely offers such a way-out hue as experienced here; Wes Tirey Sings Selected Works Of Billy The Kid is a true one-off.

To celebrate the release of ‘Wes Tirey Sings Selected Works of Billy the Kid’, on Sun Cru, watch his video for ‘Work 5’ – “…Lost cowboy psych folk, maybe. Concrete cowboy poetry with a tinge of old weird Americana. Ominous lo fi 70s Western soundtrack.”

Some albums simply deserve a vinyl edition, and Wes Tirey’s No Winner In The Blues is certainly one of those. All in all, this is a song writer deep in the big muddy, whose album has rightfully found its home on the vinyl range.

Wes Tirey is our latest ‘Off the Shelf’ guest – he talks us through his shelf of objects – from homemade collages to a Lone Ranger guitar and Robert Johnson folk art. His 2019 whiskey-soaked folk opus ‘No Winners in the Blues’ is reissued on vinyl this week.

Watch the video for Wes Tirey’s ‘Red Corn, Yellow Corn’, taken from his latest album ‘The Midwest Book of the Dead’ which gets a double vinyl re-release on Mapache Records next month.

An extra long show this week and a Psych-folk special ft. Pentangle, Heron, Tony Caro and John, Trees, Trembling Bells, Trappist Afterland, Sproatly Smith, Espers, Meg Baird, Linda Perhacs, Mick Softley, Mata Hari and more

On Black Wind, songwriter / guitarist Wes Tirey makes the case for quality over quantity. Whereas his previous releases were turned inward, this album opens out like Terence Malick meditating on prairie grass. The arrangements are spacious, simple structures of voice and acoustic guitar, with sparse backing from a Telecaster and a trap kit.

Tompkins Square have announced the release of Imaginational Anthem Vol. 7 from their ever popular series celebrating the continued innovation and beauty of modern solo acoustic guitar.

Our Song of the Day is from North Carolina based singer-songwriter Wes Tirey. False Idols is the title track from his new EP out this week.

Midwest singer songwriter Wes Tirey’s latest EP ‘I stood among trees’ offers an extremely appealing and refreshing perspective to American folk music. Really worth checking!

The 18th episode of Mix Tape Radio On Folk Radio UK features a great mix from artists such as Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy & Generationals as well as a track from a brand new DIYtrotter Session (from Wes Tirey).
