The Left Outsides

Part Three of our Best Folk Albums of 2018 includes Landless, Gwenifer Raymond, Jim Ghedi, Stick in the Wheel, Ross Ainslie, Fara, Sarah Louise, Jack Hayter, The Left Outsides, Nathan Bowles and more.

Even after several plays, All That Remains remains an enigmatic record, whose resolutely beautiful meanderings are destined to haunt the listener; you simply have to get immersed in Mark and Alison’s visionary music – don’t leave yourself outside!

This week’s show has a strong leftfield and alternative feel to it. Some of the tracks are from albums released on small labels that we love: including Okraina Records, Folklore Tapes, Reverb Worship, Burst & Bloom, Cardinal Fuzz, North Western Recordings and Mega Dodo.

There is a Place is the latest offering from husband-and-wife duo The Left Outsides, a truly sumptuous listening experience, totally engrossing from the first note, and each separate track refuses to let your ears go. Virtually every track sounds different, yet together they form a sequence of enviable, unexpected and yet almost disembodied unity.

Trimdon Grange Explosion are made up of four core members of The Eighteenth Day Of May and for those of us who enjoyed that original LP it is a pleasure to report that the new band have picked up pretty much where the old one left off.

The Left Outsides have crafted an impressive synthesis of sound in The Shape Of Things To Come. Although the band wear their love of 1960s psychedelia/folk/pop/rock on their sleeve, they have a strong enough sense of self-identity to suggest that it will sound fresh for a long time to come.

Terrascope are getting ready to celebrate their 25 years with a gig at The Lexington on Sunday 2nd August 2015 featuring The Bevis Frond, Malcolm Morley and The Left Outsides from whom we have a new music video.

We have a special première and Song of the Day from Plinth from the upcoming Shirley Collins compilation. Plus we talk to Michael Tanner about his love for the musical pioneer and folk legend.

Our Song of the Day is from The Left Outsides, they’re performing Gower Wassail in their own unique way. Introspective and ethereal English folk-psychedelia.
