the gloaming

Dennis Cahill, one of the world’s finest guitarists in traditional Irish music has died at the age of 68. Dennis was best known for playing alongside Irish fiddle player Martin Hayes and also as a member of The Gloaming.

The Gloaming 3, sees the band take the step into the unknown with an even wider exploration of the possibilities that music presents… a bold, beguiling, magnificent album.

World-renowned Irish American supergroup The Gloaming return with their highly anticipated third studio album The Gloaming 3 on 22nd February 2019 on Real World Records. Listen to two new tracks Sheehan’s Jigs and Áthas (Joy).

Earlier this year Irish/American supergroup The Gloaming played seven sold-out shows at the National Concert Hall in Dublin. Watch the live versions of ‘Fáinleog’ and ‘The Old Favourite’…….these performances stretch out and roam in unexpected new directions.

What is so impressive about this release is the level of immersive intimacy that the quintet achieves in a live setting. Only the audience appreciation at the end of each track reminds you that they aren’t playing just for you. This is music deeply rooted in its time and in its space yet played without borders – and it’s all the better for it.

We talk to Irish fiddle player Martin Hayes at Celtic Connections, the day after The Martin Hayes Quartet delivered an outstanding, hugely energetic performance, about how he got from Clare to here.

The Gloaming will play seven sold-out shows at Dublin’s National Concert Hall in March, their only live appearances of 2018. To mark this occasion, Real World Records will release Live at the NCH, a live album recorded at the beautiful concert hall. Listen to The Booley House.

The Gloaming are all set to tour a number of UK venues this month and to mark the occasion, Real World Records have revealed a new video of the band performing ‘Mrs Dwyer’ live in the Wood Room at Real World Studios.

We have a pair of guest-list places to giveaway for The Gloaming ‘Sold Out’ show at Union Chapel this Friday 26th February, the same day on which their new album “2” is released on Real World records.

In 2, The Gloaming meet and exceed the expectations encouraged by their debut. It’s another enthralling, captivating interpretation of Irish tradition. For some reason it’s all rather emotional – that emotion tends to be joy, frequently mixed with wonder.

The Gloaming announce new album ‘2’, to be released on February 26…enhancing traditional Irish music’s rich, melancholic tones with modern hues of jazz, contemporary classical, and experimental music. Listen to Fáinleog (Wanderer) here.

Irish music supergroup ‘The Gloaming’ announce new album and two live shows in London and Dublin for February 2016. Watch them performing Samhradh Samhradh live in Cork.
