The Fretless

Our Tune of the Day is The Killavil Fancy a fabulous reel, performed here live in the street by Canadian foursome The Fretless while they were in Glasgow for Celtic Connections last winter. The tune also features on their brilliant album Live From the Art Farm.

The Fretless could feasibly be an important group, a cultural force that could, as they definitely intend, reach many uninitiated ears.  It is what happened to me when I saw them live, so what better than a sizzling live album to convert others? Raw and Exciting from start to finish.

Canadian foursome The Fretless share video for Holton Alan Moore’s, a tune which appears on their new album Live From The Artfarm, recorded live in a barn in upstate New York before a handful-sized audience assembled only a few feet away from the players.

Our Canadian-based reviewer David Morrison selects his Top 10 Folk & Roots albums of 2016 including David Francey, Jesse Thom, Aerialists, John K. Samson, Emily Millard and more.

The Fretless offer up a worthy challenge to their previous award winning albums with top class musicianship and cross-genre compositions. A unique voice that is both rich, fresh and diverse.
