The Bothy Band

In what was a landmark moment in the history of Celtic Connections, one that will leave a resounding echo for many years to come, The Bothy Band smashed all dizzyingly elevated expectations.

The seminal Irish group, The Bothy Band, are to perform at Celtic Connections (on 22nd January at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall), featuring Donal Lunny, Tríona ní Dhomhnaill, Matt Molloy, Paddy Keenan, Paddy Glackin and Kevin Burke. They will be joined by Seán Óg Graham on guitar.

Fegan’s passion and knowledge of Irish traditional music played by members of the Irish Travelling community is remarkable. This is a captivating documentary, through interviews and supported archive footage he has brought to life the stuff of legend.

Our Song of the Day is from 1974 and performed by Mícheál Ó Domhnaill in the guise of Monroe, a duo he was in with Limerick singer and guitarist Mick Hanly.

You only need to read through The Bothy Band history to realise how big they were. All the names are world famous now and there is no escaping that they changed the face of irish traditional music forever.
