As Talisk head out on a UK tour, trio member Mohsen Amini talks about his musical journey, one which saw him change paths from engineering to following his deep passion for the concertina.

It’s hard to think of a band that has achieved so much and made such an impact on the trad music scene in their first 3 years, as Glasgow based trio Talisk. ‘Beyond’ is the next thrilling step on that journey as they bring ever more craft and excitement to their music.

Our Tune of the Day comes from Glasgow-based trio Talisk. Montreal, taken from their forthcoming album Beyond, was inspired by a fortuitous event when Mohsen Amini was snowed in at Montreal and by pure chance bumped into his family in the Airport whom he’d not seen in 15 years.

From now and into the New Year there are some great Folk and Americana acts lined up at London’s Kings Place including Talisk, Melrose Quartet, Molsky’s Mountain Drifters, Julie Fowlis, Lúnasa and The Albion Christmas Band.

Paisley’s National Festival and one of the biggest events in Scotland’s cultural calendar, The Spree is back for its sixth consecutive year with some of the biggest names in Scottish music, comedy and entertainment including Breabach, Kris Drever, Talisk, Dougie MacLean as well as Ireland’s Sharon Shannon. Talisk clearly enjoy, indeed thrive on, injecting some fire into their sets, every bit as much as the audience enjoy hearing it. Although they’re also very capable of taking their music along a more sedate route, that pace is quite remarkable.
