Seven projects will create new music rooted in the English folk music tradition following the latest round of funding awards by England’s national development agency for the folk arts. Including Spiro’s Alex Vann, Emily Mae Winters and more.

Kings Place, London is to play host to a series of concerts ‘without voices’ – No Voices presents leading lights in the brand new wave of contemporary UK-based musicians changing perceptions about instrumental music borne out of folk traditions.

Formed by Ian Ross and featuring members of Spiro and Cocos Lovers, Eleven Magpies is one of the most refreshing albums of instrumental folk you are likely to hear for a long time.

Our Tune of the Day is from that wonderfully inventive quartet, Spiro. Watch them performing ‘Will You Go Walk The Woods So Wild’ live at St. Pancras Old Church. Don’t miss them performing at Sidmouth Folk Week in August.

Lau’s travelling festival is back again from Fri 29 – Sun 31 May 2015 as they curate one of their broadest musical events to date at Bristol’s Colston Hall.
