With this album, Greg McDonald presents songs that bring into sharp focus many of the issues that plague Britain today. But this is far from being a dour or dispiriting listen, there’s a lightness of touch that nudges you towards a more positive outlook. Hopefully, we won’t have to wait another six years for his next offering.

Light The Evening Fire is the debut album from Glymjack, an English folk act led by singer-songwriter Greg McDonald. They have celebrated the release (out today) with a new video for the title track featuring Phil Beer and Steve Knightley of Show of Hands.

This year’s Costa Del Folk takes place in Portugal featuring an all-star line-up including Show of Hands, Seth Lakeman, Steve Tilston, Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys as well as sessions, a late night folk club, all in the luxury of the Hotel Grande Real Santa Eulalia 5* Resort And Spa in Albufeira.

Next month sees Stratford Arts House, in partnership with Riverside Campsite, celebrate their first Stratford Folk Festival which will be headlined by Folk legends Show of Hands and Cara Dillon.

Show of Hands, joined by special guests, celebrated their 25th Anniversary in front of a 5000-strong audience at the Royal Albert Hall. It was a performance to remember with many of the most heart-stopping moments coming from the core trio of Steve Knightley, Phil Beer and Miranda Sykes.

Show of Hands have today released single and video ‘The Gamekeeper’ to mark the centenary of the first day of WW1’s Battle of the Somme. They are also performing in a special concert at Exeter Cathedral tonight.
