This Sunday, folksinging legend Shirley Collins is a guest on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs. She will be sharing eight tracks, a book and a luxury item that she would take with her if cast away to a desert island.

Archangel Hill is Shirley Collins’s third album since returning to the studio half a decade ago; this album and its two predecessors seem almost to relish their maturity and at 87, she continues to create some of the most exceptional music of her career.

Shirley Collins returns with Archangel Hill, her third album for Domino. Due for release on May 26th, she has today shared her lead single and video ‘High and Away’. The album showcases another peerless collection of songs chosen by Collins, most from traditional sources but others from favourite writers of hers.

The songs on Shirley Collins’ ‘Crowlink’ are simultaneously ancient and new. It is an EP that can be elementally charged or unnervingly intimate but is never less than exquisite.

Taken from her forthcoming album Heart’s Ease, Shirley Collins shares “Sweet Greens and Blues” which was written by her first husband, Austin John Marshall, a graphic artist and poet.

On the 24th July 2020, Shirley Collins will release Heart’s Ease, her second album for Domino. The first song to be shared from Heart’s Ease is “Wondrous Love”; its tune comes from an 18th Century English ballad. Watch the video here.
