Shane Parish

Solo at Cafe OTO finds Shane Parish reimagining ballads on his Squier Telecaster. Unlike his acoustic Repertoire album, these six tracks are longer, showcasing Parish’s technique and artistic nous. From the leisurely unfolding of John Jacob Niles’ “I’m Goin’ Away” to the jagged edges of David Lynch’s “Sycamore Trees,” Parish imbues each piece with his unique character while the album’s abstract approach provides a freeing, immersive experience.

Available for pre-order now, Shane Parish has announced a new live LP, titled Solo At Cafe OTO (out July 1st via his own label, Red Eft Records), on which he explores British Folk ballads by Anne Briggs and Shirley Collins, American folk ballads by John Jacob Niles, and a song by Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch, from the television program Twin Peaks, called “Sycamore Trees”.

Repertoire sees Shane Parish flex across fourteen cover songs arranged for acoustic guitar inside thirty-two minutes. Finely nuanced and not without some remarkable moments, it’s a beautifully executed collection and a fitting tribute to the likes of Alice Coltrane, Roland Kirk and John Cage.

One of the best Tiny Desk Concerts I’ve seen in a long time; watch the Bill Orcutt Guitar Quartet with Wendy Eisenberg, Ava Mendoza and Shane Parish. Four musicians at the frontier of creativity and having fun while they’re there.

Athens, Georigia-based guitarist and songwriter, Shane Parish, offers this peak behind the curtain of his first full-length album of ‘songs with words’ with a lush and hypnotic video for his deliciously quirky “Walk Back Words”, also our Song of the Day.

One of Shane Parish’s reasons for making ‘Liverpool’, was to unlock the inscrutable power that exists within nautical worksongs that makes them timeless and uniquely human. It’s safe to say that he has achieved that goal and made a breathtaking and singular album in the process.
