Rozi Plain

With ‘Prize’, Rozi Plain lyrically reinvents the mundane and presents it as philosophical rhetoric. While the silky melodies and relaxed, walking-paced rhythms which define her music are very much present throughout this album, moments build into a groovy, excited triumph – it is brilliance.

This week’s mix is the first in a new mix series in which we only feature vinyl and cassette format. The first comprises entirely of vinyl 7″ singles/EPs. The geeky bit: The mix was recorded using Audio-Technica AT-LP5 using the built-in phono stage and USB output. I may use an external phono Stage next time, just for comparison. Some of the singles were in need of a good clean so expect some crackles …

Shirley Inspired is nothing less than a vitally important set, very likely the most important one you’ll consider buying this year. And the best possible tribute to a remarkable, and highly inspirational and influential, lady.

Rozi Plain returns to Bristol for the launch of her new album ‘Friends’. She performed in front a warm crowd gathered on-board the Thekla, in the Mud Dock area of Bristol’s Floating Harbour. Very much a homecoming show on which she was joined by The Hand and ‘Babe’ who were also her backing band for the night.

Serene and subtle on the surface, with a deeper undercurrent running through – Rozi Plain’s aptly-titled third record, see’s her joined by a host of alt-folk familiars. The results are utterly spellbinding.
