Allison de Groot and Rich Ruth have today shared their second single, ‘Distance From Then’. With its earthy birdsong opening and unadorned banjo and violin, Ruth soon creates a whole world around it. As Allison says, “Like so much of the music on this album, our two very different musical worlds sent the tracks in unexpected directions.”
“Allison de Groot & Rich Ruth” started as a plan for Rich Ruth to produce a solo banjo record for de Groot. Over a year in his Nashville studio, it became something else — a collaborative debut where clawhammer banjo runs through loops and delay into synthesizers. Acoustic tradition and electronic texture are inseparable from the first note.
Nashville trio Shrunken Elvis—Spencer Cullum, Sean Thompson, and Rich Ruth—share their dreamlike new single, “K-House.” The track blends sharp, psychedelic guitar with a downtempo dance groove, landing somewhere between dreamy kosmische and an ’80s cop show soundtrack. It’s a preview of their self-titled debut album, out September 5th, a project guided by intuition and a philosophy of “no goals, just ideas.”
