Fishermans Friends

Fisherman’s Friends the movie is as heartwarming and wholesome as a pasty on a drizzly day in Port Isaac. And it may well take the country by storm just like the shanty men who inspired the tale. Accompanying the release is the film’s soundtrack album ‘Keep Hauling’.

Jon Cleave and Billy Hawkins of Fisherman’s Friends are the guests in the latest episode of Matthew Bannister’s Folk on Foot podcast. The pair take him for a walk around their home village of Port Isaac, telling tales and singing songs inspired by the seafaring history of the area.

Fisherman’s Friends the movie is in cinemas from March 15th. It is inspired by the story of 8-piece Cornish singing group Fisherman’s Friends who signed a major record deal in 2010 and their album “Port Isaac’s Fisherman’s Friends” went Gold. Watch the movie trailer.

Folk on Foot – which raced to No 1 in the iTunes music podcast chart on its launch day – will be back from October 19 and will feature Jon Boden, Seth Lakeman, Kerry Andrew, Fisherman’s Friends, Stick in the Wheel and Julie Fowlis.

‘Cutty Sark’ is playing host to some top folk performers this autumn including The James Brothers, Andy Cutting and Fisherman’s Friends who will be performing a rousing set of shanties and Cornish folk songs in a musical celebration of the 147th anniversary of Cutty Sark’s launch.

The BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2014 return on Wednesday 19 February and are to be held in London at the Royal Albert Hall. Star guests include Bellowhead, Suzanne Vega, Clannad and The Fisherman’s Friends.

It has been announced today that the Fisherman’s Friends singer Trevor Grills passed away last night as a result of head injuries inflicted during an incident at the G Live theatre venue at the weekend.
