Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan

A new album of unheard recordings by the Pakistan musical icon Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan is to be released 34 years after they were recorded. The ‘lost album’ — named Chain of Light — was discovered in the tape archives of Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records.

To mark their 30th Anniversary, Real World Records have released an album of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan in Concert from 1985 alongside a re-issue of the Grammy-nominated “Night Song” on Vinyl for the first time.

Buda Musique have remastered Mehr and Sher Ali’s seminal landmark Qawwali session from 1994 for vinyl for the first time. The brothers belong, like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, to the Qawwali school known as Panjabi ang.

Real World Records, the brainchild of Peter Gabriel, has launched 200 albums since its concept in 1989. Real World Gold Series sees a number of classic re-issues including the Afro Celt Sound Sytem’s first two albums.

Despite the choice of instrument on Ukulele Songs it is Eddie Vedder’s songs and sonorous voice that dominate your attention as well as some great duets with Glen Hansard and Cat Power.
