mumford and sons
Many of you will be aware that Mumford and Sons and Laura Marling visited India in December 2009 to share and create music with Rajasthani musicians. There is no doubt that such a trip and musical experience will leave a lasting impression; whether it’s the experience of a new culture, acceptance as fellow musicians or the creative energy gained from such a collaboration, this is a journey that will have …
Vincent Moon has given Mumford and Sons the Blogotheque treatment. With only an hour to spare, Moon set up whilst Mumford attempted to translate one of their songs as well as find a nearby filming location that hadn’t been used before. As always, they succeeded in pulling it off along with the help of Johnny Flynn improvising on violin! This was the result:
Mumford & Sons and Laura Marling are pleased to announce details of a brand new EP of collaborative recordings with a collective of Indian musicians, the Dharohar Project, in July. The British artists embarked on a unique tour of India back in December 2009, spending a number of days with Rajasthani folk musicians in a makeshift studio at an arts & culture school in Delhi. The fruits of those recordings …
A tiny sticky-floored venue which I had shamefully never been to before, hidden somewhere between the fast-food chains of Notting Hill Gate, lies this shabby-chic club: battered leather couches and a stage area that is more akin to a garage practice space…but perhaps is it this that gives the venue and the on-going night Communion its cosy, homely feel. Mumford & Sons have unveiled their video for brand their new single ‘Roll Away Your Stone’, which is released on 7th June through Gentleman Of The Road/ Island Records. ‘Roll Away Your Stone’ comes backed with a live recording of ‘White Blank Page’ from one of the band’s recent headline dates at London’s Shepherds Bush Empire.
To the North is the second Communion Label release and debut EP from Matthew and The Atlas. For those of you that follow Communion, you’ll know that he featured on the groundbreaking Communion compilation. The album caused a big swell across the net with rave reviews and excitement on what would unfold in the future. This second release has the energy to keep it going in big mighty strides!
Bella Union have released Alessi’s Ark’s new EP ‘Soul Proprietor’. Alessi Laurent-Marke is one of those singer/songwriters who are able to sound great with what sounds like so little effort. Folks were not slow in recognising this as she signed her first record deal the day before her 17th birthday.
Been Listening, is the new album from Johnny Flynn, which is due for release through Transgressive Records on 7th June 2010. The album has already been Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record In The World on his Radio One show and picked-up a host of early radio plays on 6 Music, the track, ‘Kentucky Pill’ is the perfect introduction to Johnny’s new record and you can download it here:
The splendid Toad has worked his magic and put together a cracking Mumford and Sons Session which as he points out on his site, was a great accomplishment as Mumford turned up and got the whole session done and dusted in an hour an a half! Not bad going, and they throw in the added bonus of a Neil Young cover of Dance Dance Dance.
Some of you may, or may not, have heard about Commuinon which is both a record label and club night which is getting a lot of attention right now. The label are about to release a compilation album which we recently featured in a mix. The artists that feature on the album have a massive creative force that, for me at least, places Communion in a spotlight.
