Modern Studies

Modern Studies announce the release of two new EPs. The first, ‘Life Flows In Endless Song’, is out today, accompanied by a video for EP track The Failing Light.

How a 20-minute video featuring Modern Studies talking about albums that inspired ‘The Weight of the Sun’ occupied a whole evening. That said it was a pleasurable one…try it yourself.

There’s a sense of subtlety and grace to The Weight Of The Sun that only comes from a band that is confident in their ability to find the power in the music…a psychological camaraderie binds the band together.

Watch Mud and Flame the new track from Modern Studies, taken from their forthcoming album Welcome Strangers (out on 18 May 2018 via Fire Records on Digital|CD|Vinyl). The video was directed by Mario Cruzado.

One of Scotland’s most progressive outfits Modern Studies announce ‘Welcome Strangers’, an album of modernist pop weirdness for the 21st century, a bricolage where classicism meets experimentalism and repeated listening unearths new stories for this contemporary age.

Avocet Revisited, a four track EP, was commissioned by Earth Recordings as a companion piece to Bert Jansch’s 1979 avian-themed masterstroke ‘Avocet’ featuring Edwyn Collins and Carwyn Ellis, Modern Studies, Alasdair Roberts, Trembling Bells.

One of Scotland’s most progressive outfits, Modern Studies join the Fire Records roster. They are currently in the studio recording their follow-up to their critically acclaimed debut ‘Swell To Great’. Listen to their cover of Lomond Campbell’s ‘Every Florist In Every Town’.

Rob caught up with Modern Studies in Birmingham while they were on tour promoting their debut album ‘Swell to Great.’ While the tour is over the momentum created by the reception of their album isn’t as they prepare for their BBC Quay Session in Glasgow next month.

Our Song of the Day comes via chamber pop band Modern Studies whose players hark from Glasgow-via-Yorkshire led by Glasgow songwriter Emily Scott and some old pals and collaborators.
