On ‘This Is What I Want To Say’, Martyn Joseph delivers with heartfelt eloquence songs of love and longing, of place and time, of finding certainty amid contradictions.

In February 2022, Mark Radcliffe of Radio 2’s The Folk Show launched 21st Century Folk. These songs are revealed for the first time today. The artists involved are Martyn Joseph, Thea Gilmore, The Young’uns, Chris Difford with Kathryn Williams, and Angeline Morrison with The Unthanks.

Featuring a number of special guests, “1960” is one of the most personal albums Martyn Joseph as ever made. Quoting a line from one of the lyrics he describes “1960” as a soul taking stock, of looking inwards and finding acceptance. It’s an album of the year.

Our Song of the Day comes from Martyn Joseph with ‘Born to Late’. It is the first single from Martyn’s much anticipated new album “1960”, due to be released on 19th November 2021.

There are, undoubtedly, many out there who, like Joseph back in 1973, remain ignorant of Phil Ochs and for whom, as the notes say, this will afford a nudge forward. That it also happens to be one of Joseph’s finest albums is an added bonus.

Martyn Joseph was back at The David Hall, South Petherton for the fifth time, a venue and an artist who seem made for each other. Standing under the iconic dome the acoustics seem to lift the singer songwriter’s passionate songs.

On ‘Here Come The Young’, Martyn Joseph teams up with producer Gerry Diver. Fire and energy fuel the songs and delivery addressing the uncertainty and the hope for change on both political and personal levels.
