Marry Waterson

Watch the video for the new single from Marry Waterson & Emily Barker, taken from their new album together ‘A Window To Other Ways’ – an exciting, explorative journey, and a charmed collaboration.

Marry Waterson and David A Jaycock reveal brand new video ‘Forgive Me’, taken from latest album Death Had Quicker Wings Than Love. The song’s lyrics cover a subject that any mother could no doubt empathise with, and it is encased beautifully in their atmospheric folk song.

This week’s show has a strong leftfield and alternative feel to it. Some of the tracks are from albums released on small labels that we love: including Okraina Records, Folklore Tapes, Reverb Worship, Burst & Bloom, Cardinal Fuzz, North Western Recordings and Mega Dodo.

Tomorrow sees the release of Death Had Quicker Wings Than Love, the new album from Marry Waterson & David A Jaycock. To celebrate the release, you can listen to the album in full and read, in Marry’s own words, about the songs and the making of the album.

It’s impossible to listen to Marry Waterson without the inevitable comparison to her mother, Lal. However, this album is firm evidence that while the apple may not have fallen far from the tree, it has grown into very much its own orchard, one made all the richer by her partnership with David A. Jaycock. This is one to treasure.

Over the next month, Kings Place will be hosting some of the very best Folk artists including Marry Waterson & David A. Jaycock, Faustus, Maddy Prior, Noel Hill as well as two Album launches from Leveret and Martin Simpson.

Watch, Small Ways and Slowly, the new video for the lead single from Marry Waterson & David A. Jaycock’s new album Death Had Quicker Wings Than Love. Out on One Little Indian Records on 29th September.

This week’s mix is the first in a new mix series in which we only feature vinyl and cassette format. The first comprises entirely of vinyl 7″ singles/EPs. The geeky bit: The mix was recorded using Audio-Technica AT-LP5 using the built-in phono stage and USB output. I may use an external phono Stage next time, just for comparison. Some of the singles were in need of a good clean so expect some crackles …

Bright Phoebus, Lal and Mike Waterson’s 1972 folk-noir masterpiece is to be reissued. Under the supervision of David Suff (Topic/Fledging) and Marry Waterson (daughter of Lal), the album has been remastered from the original tapes.

Marry Waterson and David A Jaycock are at the top of my list when it comes to favourite folk duos, so don’t miss their tour supporting Marry’s cousin Eliza Carthy throughout November and their headline tour in February next year.

We have a video premiere to share from Marry Waterson & David A. Jaycock for their new single, ‘Digging for Diamonds’ from their highly praised ‘Two Wolves’ album which has led to two nominations in this year’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
