Liam O’Flynn

The fire and fury and commitment of Planxty as a hell of a performing unit is there in full force. Live sets are by their nature usually best aimed at the converted, but for someone outside of the established Planxty fan-base One Night In Bremen certainly steers closer into the “worth acquiring” category than the majority of live releases.

Uilliann piper Liam O’Flynn has died after a long period of illness. To most, he will best be remembered as a founding member of the groundbreaking Irish traditional group Planxty in which he played alongside  Christy Moore, Andy Irvine and Donal Lunny.

Masters of Their Craft is a new compilation CD from Tara Music, a label that was set up in 1972 to license the release of Christy Moore’s Prosperous Album. This release picks some of the cream of the crop!

Weaving the Land is the first in a new series of mixes from Folk Radio UK. The mixes explore traditional music and its connection to the land. Whether it is recalling memories of it or the longing for return to the homeland. The first mix opens to Irish poet Seamus Heaney and features Liam O’flynn, Kathryn Tickell, Kris Drever, Dick Gaughan and more.
