Liam O Maonlai

The Transatlantic Sessions, one of Celtic Connections’ most enduring and beloved institutions, celebrated its 20th edition ft. Amythyst Kiah, Liam O’Maonlai, Martha Wainwright, Allison de Groot and Tatiana Hargreaves, Karen Matheson and more.

Martha Wainwright, Liam Ó Maonlai, Karen Matheson and Amythyst Kiah are among the special guests of The Transatlantic Sessions concert series 2023 which will celebrate its 20th Anniversary.

For the final release of her four-part music series, Clare Sands joins Hothouse Flowers front-man Liam Ó Maonlaí for ‘Teacht an Fhómhair’ (Autumn’s Arrival). Watch their mesmerising video (by Liadain Ni Bhraonáin and Kasia Kaminska ), a paganistic, primal, pilgrimage recorded over 48 hours.

Liam Ó Maonlaí’s ground-breaking solo album Rian takes to the stage as a thrilling dance-gig from which we also take our Song of the Day.

Congolese artist Niwel Tsumbu moved to Ireland in 2004. Like Liam O’Maonlaí he has continued to explore many strands of music and their eventual collaboration seemed inevitable. Watch them performing on Donal Dineen’s late night show The Small Hours.

Weaving the Land is the first in a new series of mixes from Folk Radio UK. The mixes explore traditional music and its connection to the land. Whether it is recalling memories of it or the longing for return to the homeland. The first mix opens to Irish poet Seamus Heaney and features Liam O’flynn, Kathryn Tickell, Kris Drever, Dick Gaughan and more.
