Kim Lowings

The Urban Folk Quartet are to head the lineup of exciting folk and acoustic acts at the first ever folk festival in Walton-on-Thames in Surrey. They will be joined by The Outside Track, Kitty MacFarlane, Kim Lowings & The Greenwood and more.

Kim Lowings has been steadily climbing the folk league table since her Drifting Point EP debut back in 2011. Her latest offering ‘Wild & Wicked Youth’ backed by The Greenwood band places her in the first division.

The London Folk Festival returns to Camden’s Cecil Sharp House for a day-long celebration of folk music featuring Jim Moray, Lady Maisery, The Askew Sisters, The Rheingans Sisters, The Andy May Trio, Said The Maiden, Moore Moss Rutter, Rosie Hood, Emily Mae Winters and more.

This week’s Folk Show features rituals, Cuckoos, poachers, Lapwings, Gypsies and a Golden Plover to name just a few of the themes that crop up in the folk songs we’ve pulled together. We’ve also got a sneak peek at some advance releases from Martin Simpson, Tom Russell, The Young’uns and Mairearad Green and Mike Vass plus more.

Our Folk Music Friday is back with our video showcase of some of the best there is in folk music from both the past and present. Featuring: Emily Smith, Jiggy, Bert Jansch, Fairport Convention, Marry Waterson and many more.

As the torch passes from one generation to the next Stourbridge-based outfit Kim Lowings & The Greenwood demonstrate that British folk music continues to remain in very good hands.
