There’s a rare opportunity for Scots music lovers in the south of England to see multi-award winning Gaelic singer Julie Fowlis at The Sidmouth Folk Festival on Monday 5th August.

“The Lost Words” finally reaches us in the form of Spell Songs. Composed by eight of folk’s finest contemporary talents: Karine Polwart, Seckou Keita, Julie Fowlis, Kris Drever, Jim Molyneux, Kerry Andrew, Rachel Newton and Beth Porter, the songs bring us hope for the future.

Allt finds Julie Fowlis, Éamon Doorley, Zoë Conway and John Mc Intyre at the top of their game. That they gel so well musically and allow each other the space to explore new ground says an awful lot for the selfless ethos in both traditional music, and the musicians themselves.

Folk on Foot – which raced to No 1 in the iTunes music podcast chart on its launch day – will be back from October 19 and will feature Jon Boden, Seth Lakeman, Kerry Andrew, Fisherman’s Friends, Stick in the Wheel and Julie Fowlis.

Julie Fowlis has unveiled a visually stunning music video for Dh’èirich mi moch, b’ fheàrr nach do dh’èirich from her new album Alterum. The video was made by the acclaimed photographer/filmmaker Craig Mackay as a reaction to the themes on the record.

As Julie Fowlis continues to develop her broad repertoire of Gaelic song, alterum succeeds in exploring connections with other languages, cultures and art forms that enrich her music even further. Above all, though, alterum is, quite simply, an album of the most beautiful music.

Julie Fowlis has announced her fifth studio album Alterum. The Latin title makes the subtle suggestion that this record is a departure from what has gone before. Special guests include Mary Chapin Carpenter. Watch the album trailer.
