John Cohen

Although well known as a founding member of the New Lost City Ramblers, John Cohen is also an exceptional photographer. Next month sees the publication of a new work – Speed Bumps on a Dirt Road: When Old Time Music Met Bluegrass.

The High and Lonesome Sound combines Cohen’s vintage photos, film and musical recordings as well as an anecdotal text into a multimedia tribute to Roscoe Holcomb an underappreciated legend of American music.

Shieldshaped present a night of “The New Old Time” in Bristol on 28th June. Headlining on the night will be Brooklyn, New York’s old-time string band ‘The Dust Busters’ who will be joined by the tin pan alley melodramatic Boxcar Alduous Huxley and those vintage 78 spinners the Shellac Sounds gramophone DJs!
