Jim White (drummer)

Part Two of our Best Folk Albums of 2018 includes Ben Glover, Faeland, Shooglenifty, Brona McVittie, Emma Tricca, Glenn Jones, Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage, Rachael McShane, John Smith, Kacy & Clayton and lots more.

Watch the new video from Xylouris White for Daphne (also our Song of the Day). It features both Jim White and George Xylouris’s mothers dancing in their separate homelands. May will see Xylouris White returning to Europe for a tour which includes a residency at London’s Café Oto.

While it is easy to focus on just how unusual Xylouris White’s latest album sounds, what shouldn’t be overlooked is the overwhelming and unexpected emotional impact it carries. Mother is that rare thing: experimental music with a huge heart.

Xylouris White share the video for their single “Only Love”. The incredible animation video was directed by Lucy Dyson. They’ve also announced their upcoming UK/EU tour including a Café Oto residency.

Our Song of the Day comes from Cretan lute player George Xylouris and Australian drummer Jim White of Dirty Three. Forging is taken from their 2016 album Black Peak. Their new album ‘Mother’ is due for release on 19th January 2018 via Bella Union.

“The more I have listened to this album, the more interesting it has become”…Jim White enjoys telling stories and the stories on Waffles, Triangles and Jesus are as good an example of his art as you can get…this is storytelling first, with the music a very close second.
