Jim White (drummer)

Taken from his new album All Hits: Memories, drummer Jim White shares a video for his new album single ‘Marketplace’, made by Anna White…The tapping of the hi-hat, like signals from typewriters and stock tickers of old, sets the tone…

Jim White, one of the world’s greatest drummers, has announced his first-ever solo album, All Hits: Memories, and shares lead single and video ‘Names Make the Name’ – Tran and Masami Tomihisa’s video marches the viewer through an abandoned wonderland with serpentine fascination.

Xylouris White are on the road again this November with dates dotted across the US, Australia and Europe – including two nights at London’s superb Cafe OTO.

Xylouris White’s ‘The Forest in Me’ smacks of confidence and creativity and is happy to shift expectations and deliver a sound so different to previous albums. I’ve enjoyed this duo (trio?) since Goats came along in 2014, but this short, sharp and dynamic project is the one I’ve been waiting for.

Our Song of the Day comes from Xylouris White with Red Wine, their latest single from their new album The Forest In Me. ‘Deep and deconstructed music that will also get ‘em up at weddings!’ Watch the accompanying video by Anna White.

Our Song of the Day is Latin White, the new single from Xylouris White. The short vibrant dance piece is taken from their new album, The Forest In Me. Watch the accompanying video by Rebecca E. Marshall.

Devin Hoff pays tribute to Anne Briggs through a series of dramatic but somehow faithful rearrangements. Featuring a stellar cast of like-minded Briggs fans, Voices From the Empty Moor looks backwards for inspiration but is entirely contemporary in feel.

Xylouris White’s video for “Ascension”, directed by Shelagh Hannan, relates to the Sisyphean theme of their forthcoming album. The Sisypheans is out on November 8th with a European & US Tour to follow.

Following up on last year’s ‘Mother’, Xylouris White announce their fourth album and Drag City debut – The Sisypheans. Accompanying the announcement was a video for lead single ‘Tree Song’.

Part Two of our Best Folk Albums of 2018 includes Ben Glover, Faeland, Shooglenifty, Brona McVittie, Emma Tricca, Glenn Jones, Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage, Rachael McShane, John Smith, Kacy & Clayton and lots more.

Watch the new video from Xylouris White for Daphne (also our Song of the Day). It features both Jim White and George Xylouris’s mothers dancing in their separate homelands. May will see Xylouris White returning to Europe for a tour which includes a residency at London’s Café Oto.

While it is easy to focus on just how unusual Xylouris White’s latest album sounds, what shouldn’t be overlooked is the overwhelming and unexpected emotional impact it carries. Mother is that rare thing: experimental music with a huge heart.
