Jack Rutter

Jack Rutter is one of the most enthralling folk singers, guitarists & musicians on the British folk scene today – with This Is Something Constant, the final release in a trilogy, he has hit the highest watermark to date.

After the release of Sea Song Sessions on Topic Records and a mini tour by ship last year, Jon Boden, Seth Lakeman, Ben Nicholls, Emily Portman & Jack Rutter will be reunited once more for a short run of live dates in September 2023.

Taken from his new ‘Covers’ EP, watch Jack Rutter performing ‘Small Northern Town’ live. His new EP also features covers of songs by Peter Gabriel, Dwight Yoakam and a Frank Kidson song learnt from Bryony Griffith.

Sea Song Sessions is a glorious album, showcasing some of the best of the current crop of British folk artists – Jon Boden, Seth Lakeman, Ben Nicholls, Emily Portman, Jack Rutter – delivering some of the best music you’re likely to hear this year.

Some of our favourites from Sidmouth Folk Festival 2022 Ham Concerts include Eddi Reader plus Ryan Young & David Foley, Show of Hands plus Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage, Spiers & Boden plus Bryony Griffith & Alice Jones, and Kate Rusby plus Jack Rutter.

The line-up on ‘I Am of Ireland’, reads like a who’s who of the mainly Irish but also Irish American and British folk music world. There’s plenty of enjoyable music here and if it guides you back to Yeats’ poetry, well, that’s a worthwhile bonus.

With this second remarkable album, Jack Rutter has confirmed himself to be one of the foremost performers of traditional material in the British folk scene. With his voice, alongside his guitar, proving to be an equally enthralling instrument.

Traditional folk singer and multi-instrumentalist Jack Rutter announces a follow-up to his 2017 solo debut with Gold of Scar & Shale. Watch the video for his first single ‘I Was Once a Young Ploughboy’.

It is Jack Rutter’s ability to live and breathe these songs and invite listeners to do the same that elevates this majestic work to something very special indeed. Hills is a vital, enthralling record which showcases his storytelling.

Deep Time and Narrow Space is a well-crafted and well-balanced release from Molly Evans. She writes to suit the strengths of her beautiful voice perfectly, it is charming and lyrical, and the accompanying instruments add to the pace and depth of each piece. A real delight.
