International Anthem

Chicago Underground Duo’s Hyperglyph is a stunning return, a masterful fusion of free jazz and otherworldly exploration. Rob Mazurek’s trumpet and synthesizers blend with Chad Taylor’s percussion, creating a relentless, vibrant album that feels both familiar and entirely new. It’s an exhilarating, multi-layered work of pure invention.

Tom Skinner, the dynamic drummer for The Smile and Sons of Kemet, has announced his new solo album, Kaleidoscopic Visions, arriving September 26th via Brownswood and International Anthem. The intricate title track is available now, previewing a record featuring collaborations with Meshell Ndegeocello and Portishead’s Adrian Utley. Skinner will support the release with US tour dates this October and a London show in November.

After an 11-year hiatus, the pioneering Chicago Underground Duo—Rob Mazurek and Chad Taylor—return with their new album, Hyperglyph, out August 15th via International Anthem. Lead single “Click Song” offers a potent taste of their evolved sound, blending blown-out horn chants, muscular polyrhythms, and deep synthesised bass.

Like Eric Satie in his day, Jeremiah Chiu & Marta Sofia Honer realise that intelligent, modern music doesn’t have to be brow-furrowingly serious, even when serious themes are being explored. Different Rooms is the perfect example of how quick and luminous this kind of music can be.

Ben LaMar Gay’s Yowzers is a soulful journey where tradition meets boundless creativity. Gay blends bluesy gospel, improvisational jazz, and cosmic folklore into something fresh and deeply moving. This eclectic and graceful album, built with immense detail and an even greater heart, unfolds like passing clouds, revealing new wonders with each listen.

Described as a joyfully irreverent psychedelic fantasia of folklore, free jazz, and avant-garde Blues, Chicago composer, improviser, instrumentalist, and musical folklorist Ben LaMar Gay announces his new album and shares the title track single, Yowzers.

Uhlmann Johnson Wilkes is proof that you don’t have to forsake traditional aesthetic notions of melody to make something experimental…this is music deep and alluring enough to get lost in and sparse enough to find yourself in.

Alabaster DePlume’s new LP, A Blade Because A Blade Is Whole, is both a soother, a coping mechanism and a healer. This one might be the State of the Nation address that truly resonates.

Macie Stewart’s ‘When the Distance is Blue’ feels even more cerebral than her debut, more improvisational, and more rooted in landscape. But for all the meditativeness and all the improvisation, there is a single-minded artistry at work behind these pieces.

Recorded in May 2024 at 2220 Arts + Archive, Los Angeles, California, watch Carlos Niño & Friends performing their 2024 album Placenta – a work of warmth and humanity and unruly, anarchic joy that’s perfectly captured on stage.

Featuring four of America’s most potent musicians, all performing at the top of their game, Jeff Parker’s ‘The Way Out of Easy’ might just be the best jazz album of 2024. Another win for the ever-reliable Chicago label International Anthem.
