Herman Dune

David Ivar, aka Herman Dune, offers his fifteenth album, Odysseús, a testament to his open and humanistic musical philosophy. Born from a period of isolation during the pandemic, the songs blend classic Herman Dune with a profound sense of yearning. A consummate artist and a songwriter adept at hiding emotional depths in plain sight, Odysseús is another outstanding example of his work.

As it’s the weekend and the sun is out, I feel a double helping is in order. So here are two new videos for songs from the excellent ‘The Portable Herman Düne Vol. 2.’

Our Song of the Day is taken from ‘The Portable Herman Dune Vol 2’. Watch ‘Undiscarded Jacaranda’, one of the only Herman Dune songs ever written with a chorus in French, sung by his partner Mayon Hanania. This could easily become a timeless classic.

Later this month Herman Dune releases ‘The Portable Herman Dune Vol 1’, the first of a three-part acoustic anthology. Watch the video for his new single and album opener ‘Why Would That Hurt? (If You Never Loved Me)’.

Warm, relaxed, bittersweet, sad and joyful in equal measure, recorded two years before 2020’s Notes From Vinegar Hill, Herman Dune’s ‘Santa Cruz Gold’ stands as an often thematic companion piece, and its first-time physical release is a very welcome addition to the library.

David Ivar has made a record that sounds on first listen like it could have been recorded at any point in the last fifty years, but in reality is uniquely and intelligently current, an album of the year in every sense.

Watch ‘Say You Love Me Too’, the new single from Herman Dune – a Weight-y slice of hopeful romanticism calling to mind The Band, from his new album ‘Notes From Vinegar Hill’.

On Sweet Thursday Ivar tackles contemporary America from a personal standpoint, through the lens of literature and with an omnivorous knowledge of the history of music. Put like that it sounds dry, even academic, but Ivar’s wit and melodic sense ensures that it is nothing of the sort. Watch his new video Down by the Jacaranda.

Watch the new video for Under Your Skin from Herman Dune’s new solo project ‘Black Yaya’. Debut album released next month via City Slang.

Watch the new video for “Flying a Rocket” from the upcoming self-titled solo debut from Herman Dune’s Black Yaya. Plus listen to a show he hosted for Simple Folk Radio.

Stanley Brinks (Herman Düne) is joined by The Wave Pictures on their first joint release for 4 years. Listen to the B-side ‘Maybe I Will See You Again’…not as you’ve heard it before.

On this weeks show Simple Folk Radio their special guest host is Black Yaya …the new solo project name of David Ivar, the lead singer and song writer for Herman Dune.
