The ever-popular Lancashire folk experimentalists Harp and a Monkey have just announced dates for a mini-summer tour – along with the pledge to preview some of the material from their long-awaited fourth album.

As the WWI centenary events wind down, the Lancastrian folk trio Harp and a Monkey are preparing to undertake a run of performances that are likely to provide audiences with the last chance to see the ‘War Stories’ show performed in its entirety for quite some time.

The Lancashire folk experimentalists Harp and a Monkey have just made public the fruits of a beautiful and informative short film collaboration which studies the influence of Japanese art and culture on the creations of Vincent Van Gogh. Watch it here.

A small rural church, a disused airfield, an old railway wagon, and the winding room of a former colliery – these are the intriguing sites that provide the backdrop for a new documentary from Harp and a Monkey.

We catch up with those northern folk experimentalist Harp and a Monkey to talk about their latest War Stories project. They also share some of their personal highlights from a tour which saw them perform in some very unusual locations, including bomb craters on moors.

The stories contained here might well refer to a well-known period of history, but the angles at which they come at that familiar narrative, the microcosms they create, are truly individual and at times unprecedented. War Stories is a courageous, often demanding and ultimately satisfying project.
