gigspanner

The Gigspanner Big Band are a unique musical proposition; they are taking folk music down new and enthralling paths. They are also one of the most exciting live bands you are likely to see this year (or any year, for that matter), and this recording documents their energy, skill and hard work brilliantly.

Fairport Convention has announced names for next year’s 37th Cropredy Convention including Petula Clark, Dougie MacLean, Richard Thompson, Show of Hands, Gigspanner Big Band, Feast of Fiddles as well as a triple bill of performances from ‘early years’ former members of Fairport to celebrate their Golden Anniversary.

Unhindered by the limits of technical ability, Gigspanner take music rooted in the British Isles and with the flick of a bow, a finely chosen chord or slip of a beat, produce hypnotic arrangements layered in Eastern European, French, Cajun, African and even Aboriginal influences, touching on baroque, classical and gypsy jazz along the way.

Our Song of the Day comes from Peter Knight’s Gigspanner who are currently on tour. This is their new music video for ‘Hard Times of Old England’ which is the final track from their latest album Layers of Ages.

Peter Knight’s Gigspanner head out on tour this week and have announced the release of a new live DVD. If you’ve yet to capture the magic of this trio then now’s your chance!

Layers of Ages is the latest offering from Peter Knight’s Gigspanner and the result is well worth the wait, leaving no doubt that Gigspanner’s increasingly impressive part-improvised, boundary-crossing sound is like no other. Don’t miss their June 2015 album tour.

Steeleye Span’s legendary fiddle player Peter Knight is out on the road again this autumn with his band Gigspanner. Their music is unique and unlike any other band out there!
