Featuring songs from landworkers and some well-known folk singers, ‘Stand Up Now’ is a beautiful and enchanting album that uses its traditional sound to explore a range of political issues surrounding the agricultural industry. Ultimately, it’s an album about hope; hope for a better, fairer world.

Our Song of the Day is ‘Roll On’, a new single from Scottish folk musician and singer songwriter Ewan McLennan, taken from a new tribute album to Scotland’s Knockengorroch festival – Sounds Like Knockengorroch.

Folkroom announces the Pillow Fort Folk Festival on June 6th ft. Sam Lee, author and artist Chris Riddell, Edgelarks, Ewan McLennan, Ben Walker, Kirsty Merryn, Hickory Signals AJIMAL, Native Harrow and more.

Borrowed Songs contains pieces both original and traditional and Ewan treats them in the same way, which is as songs and stories that need to be kept alive by playing them, hearing them and passing them on. This brief and quietly powerful album is one of subtle beauty and astute skill.

After stepping away from music to focus on “Fatherhood, politics & studying”, Award-winning Scottish singer Ewan McLennan announces a comeback with a handful of gigs and news of an album.

Watch Ewan McLennan performing ‘Make Me Down A Pallet On Your Floor’. The song is a long-time American traditional favourite of his and will feature on his upcoming tour setlist.

In our latest Folk Show, we open with a Folk Radio UK session from Gregory Alan Isakov. Plus new music from Naomi Bedford and Paul Simmonds, Emily Mure, Laura Baird, Josh Ritter, Shake the Chains and more.

In a Folk Radio UK Exclusive, watch Ewan McLennan performing Down the Line – a song he recently wrote, as yet unreleased and unrecorded. It’s also our Song of the Day.

This month Ewan McLennan will go back out to play his first UK solo tour of this year. After spending the last few months on collaborative projects, Ewan will be touring across England and Scotland in the coming months.

We talk to author and journalist George Monbiot and Scottish guitarist and balladeer Ewan McLennan about their album Breaking the Spell of Loneliness. “To this day song can and does continue to speak about the world around us, to document the undocumented, and to rail against the injustices of our time.”

Next month, folk singer Nancy Kerr will curate a series of events at London’s Kings Place exploring dialogues that spring from our environment and our relationships with, and within it, through literature, music, and song.

The eloquence of both George Monbiot and Ewan McLennan in raising these issues says far more than any music critic can. Breaking the Spell of Loneliness doesn’t merely tackle the issues raised, it offers solutions, it offers hope. It’s a moving, thought-provoking work that has relevance for all of us.
