With a bonus opening by Smith and McClennan, Dirk Powell’s album launch at Celtic Connections had a warm informal back-porch feel, as if Dirk and his transatlantic band were playing as much for their own fun as for ours.

Having just returned from a New Zealand tour Emily Smith has a busy time ahead with a mini German tour, a full UK Tour, a new collaborative show for Edinburgh’s ‘Tradfest’ and a performance on a new BBC Radio 4 programme called ‘Folk of the Pennines’ which will also feature Kate Rusby and Bella Hardy.

This year has been a busy one for Emily Smith with the wonderful Echoes and her Ten Years compilation. Emily took some time out for an FRUK exclusive, filling in the story so far.

Ten Years was originally only available at Emily Smith’s live shows, but this excellent collection now has a full release (Out Today) and offers a great insight into her outstanding decade in folk.
