With a bonus opening by Smith and McClennan, Dirk Powell’s album launch at Celtic Connections had a warm informal back-porch feel, as if Dirk and his transatlantic band were playing as much for their own fun as for ours.

Having just returned from a New Zealand tour Emily Smith has a busy time ahead with a mini German tour, a full UK Tour, a new collaborative show for Edinburgh’s ‘Tradfest’ and a performance on a new BBC Radio 4 programme called ‘Folk of the Pennines’ which will also feature Kate Rusby and Bella Hardy.

This year has been a busy one for Emily Smith with the wonderful Echoes and her Ten Years compilation. Emily took some time out for an FRUK exclusive, filling in the story so far.
