Eliza Carthy’s biography Wayward Daughter by Sophie Parkes was released this month. To celebrate, a launch party was held at The Greystones, Sheffield, yesterday evening (22nd May) which was attended by some very familar faces!

Folk rebels Mawkin are to release a new album titled ‘Crow’. The album will feature some special well know English folk guests!

After a five year absence, British artists are returning to the Womex world music convention this year: Juju, a collaboration between guitarist Justin Adams and Gambian griot Juldeh Camara; a figurehead of English folk music, Eliza Carthy performing with her new band; and Krar Collective.

The BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Winners for 2011 were announced tonight following during an award ceremony which went out live. There were many highlights of the evening as well as double wins for Chris Wood as well as Eliza Carthy and norma Waterson. Ewan McLennan also managed to pick up the Horizon Award! Following on from his third album, Low Culture, Jim Moray has delivered another outstanding work which flawlessly mixes traditional song with modern sensibilities and musical arrangements. In an entirely characteristically brave move Moray has taken the decision to pre-release In Modern History to a wide audience as a free 8 track CD through Songlines Magazine in April 2010, the full 10 track CD is realised in June.

After 15 years of touring the globe and playing major stage in countries including Malaysia, Algeria, US, Germany, Portugal, Ireland, Italy, Czech Republic, Spain, Belgium and many more, Salsa Celtica decided that a celebration was in order.
