Released today, Who Is This? is the stunning new single from Scottish folk singer and multi-instrumentalist Julie Fowlis, co-written with nature writer and best-selling author Robert Macfarlane – also featuring Donald Shaw, Duncan Chisholm and Clockwork Sessions.

Following his premiere of ‘Black Cuillin’ at this year’s Celtic Connections, we chat with Duncan Chisholm about his album, the concert, Sorley MacLean and poetry, plans for the future, and more.

Featuring songs from her debut album, Kim Carnie opened the sold-out evening at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall, followed by Duncan Chisholm’s premiere of his new album Black Cuillin. Supported by a cast of top-notch musicians, it was a hugely entertaining evening.

In part inspired by Sorley MacLean’s poem ‘An Cuilithionn / The Cuillin’, Duncan Chisholm’s “Black Cuillin” is, by any measure, an extraordinary achievement, a complete joy and a deeply immersive experience.

There was a definite buzz around RURA’s Celtic Connections appearance and their collaborative EP launch gig featuring an extended band and guests: Duncan Chisholm, Julie Fowlis, Hannah Rarity, Ross Ainslie and Michael McGoldrick. It couldn’t have been better.

Having picked up Album of the Year Award and  Composer of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards, Duncan Chisholm heads out on the road with his band in September, an unmissable opportunity to catch one of Scotland’s most loved fiddle players.

Since 1996 The Scots Fiddle Festival has been promoting and sharing traditional Scots fiddle music. In its 20 years, the number of events organised by the volunteer committee has tripled, and this year over 40 musicians will present 50 events over the space of just one weekend in Edinburgh.
