doc watson

This latest release from Smithsonian Folkways is enough to make old-time American music enthusiasts think all their Christmases have come at once. Doc Watson & Gaither Carlton should be an essential part of any old-time music aficionado’s collection.

Released as part of the partnership between Yep Roc Records and The Southern Folklife Collection, Live At Club 47 features a never before heard live performance by Doc Watson, recorded live at Club 47 (now known as Club Passim) in Cambridge, MA in 1963 at the beginning of his solo career.

Listen to our new mix that celebrates Doc Watson and the music of the mountains: a celebration of the music and the people.

Doc Watson has died at age 89. Re-knowned for his fine examples of the Anglo-American folk tradtion and unique flat picking style he wanted to be remembered more as a decent human being than a flashy guitar player.
