Daoirí Farrell

Daoirí Farrell, our Artist of the Month, returns this month with his third solo album, A Lifetime of Happiness. The songs are delivered with infinite care and deep affection; it is a wonderful album that delights on every level.

Daoirí Farrell is back in the studio again recording the follow-up to True Born Irishman with Dónal Lunny producing and Manus Lunny engineering. He is on tour next month and has also been confirmed for this year’s Cambridge Folk Festival.

This year’s Costa Del Folk takes place in Portugal featuring an all-star line-up including Show of Hands, Seth Lakeman, Steve Tilston, Sam Kelly & The Lost Boys as well as sessions, a late night folk club, all in the luxury of the Hotel Grande Real Santa Eulalia 5* Resort And Spa in Albufeira.

Having recently secured three nominations in the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, Dublin singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell announces a UK Tour on which he will be joining the Damien O’Kane Trio on the first leg.

Daoirí described True Born Irishman as a continuation of his first album but the choice of songs, the intricacies, and energy of the arrangements, the quality of the recording all go to make it so much more…a force to be reckoned with on the Irish music scene.

With his new album, True Born Irishman, out this month, Johnny catches up with Daoirí Farrell to talk about his new album, songs, playing, influences – Liam Weldon, Christy Moore, Frank Harte, Len Graham – and the vibrant Dublin music scene.

With a second album promised for November, Daoirí Farrell is a voice that’s going to be hard to avoid during the rest of this year. Give The First Turn a listen now, it should convince you avoiding him is the last thing you’d want to do.
