Daire Bracken

Our Song of the Day is Séadnadh Mór (The Lion and Fox) performed live by Preab Meadar (Lorcán Mac Mathúna and Daire ó Breacáin). They are joined by Sean Nós dancers Liam Scanlon and Caoimhe Ní Mhaolagáin.

Our Song of the Day is the debut single from Jiggy. ‘Laethanta Saoire’ is a tune that was composed in the 90s by the legendary guitarist Steve Cooney. Although the band have played it many times it has never been recorded or released… until now that is!

This is what happens when you have a chat down the pub and decide to mix traditional Irish music with hip hop beats from the 1990s. Meet Jiggy: Daire Bracken (fiddle) Éamonn Galldubh (pipes), Niwel Tsumbu (guitar), Anttoin Bracken (guitar), Robbie Harris (percussion) and DJayzus on decks…and occasional guests including Beatboxer MIC Bandit.

Lorcán MacMathuna of Preab Meadar talks us through the dance element of their new album with a brief look at the history of Irish Literature.

Daire and Lorcán discuss their new album ‘Preabmeadar’, the wealth of musical connections and the excitement of finding new horizons in ancient traditions.

Daire Ó Breacáin and Lorcán Mac Mathúna have created far more than a recording; it’s a contemporary window on the work of the earliest bards, on the origins of poetry itself.

Our Song of the Day is taken from Preab Meadar, the new project and album from Lorcán Mac Mathúna and Daire Bracken. The chances are you’ve heard nothing quite like this before.

Irish singer Lorcán Mac Mathúna has long been a favourite of Folk Radio UK so it’s a great pleasure to present this special Folk Radio UK Session which also features fiddler Daire Bracken.
