Ten years ago today, avant folk duo Arborea released their critically praised album ‘Red Planet’ – in celebration, Buck and Shanti share their personal recollections of that album along with personal insights into its making in a special guest post.

Our Song of the Day is from Arborea with ‘When I Was On Horseback’, filmed in Lewiston Maine in 2013 in the old clock tower of the Lewiston City Hall.

Composer, musician, luthier and curator Buck Curran is a man of many talents, as No Love is Sorrow further testifies. A bewitching album that pulls the listener in many directions and exposes them to many emotions.

Our Song of the Day comes from Buck Curran. Watch his brilliant new video for Ghost On The Hill which was made by his daughter Shylah. The song features on his new album ‘No Love Is Sorrow’.

We hear from two musicians – Buck Curran and Adele from Bergamo, Italy, a city in lockdown and one of the worst-hit cities by the coronavirus. Besides the threat of the virus they also now face the challenge of trying to make a living and supporting a growing family.

Buck Curran and Tompkins Square have done a fine job here, both in paying tribute to the late great Jack Rose and bringing in a number of superb players. Fantastic stuff and a real testament to the quality of current material available to those who seek it.

Watch Buck Curran in session performing music from his solo albums Immortal Light and Morning Haikus, Afternoon Ragas. The videos were filmed by Jesse Sheppard (of the band Elkhorn) at his home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.

Part One of our Best Folk Albums of 2018 includes Brigid Mae Power, Anna & Elizabeth, Aidan O’Rourke, Eamon O’Leary, Buck Curran, Cath & Phil Tyler, Dom Flemons, Kitty Macfarlane, Mike Vass, Toby Hay, Duncan Chisholm and more.

Morning Haikus, Afternoon Ragas is an album of poetry in guitar music. The space around Buck Curran’s music allows it to grow and change, to become part of the landscape yet also allows you to become part of it as well. Join in.

Watch Werewolf, the new music video from Adaya, taken from their album The Other Side – an album rooted deeply in folk traditions from the British Isles and steeped in colours of contemporary psychedelic folk.

On ‘The Other Side,’ Adaya successfully reimagines folk music through the bright window of intelligent songcraft and genuinely experimental arrangements. It is an intensely varied and often mesmerising release from a unique voice.
