River Lea is a record label run by Geoff Travis & Jeannette Lee of Rough Trade along with music journalist Tim Chipping. We chat with Tim about how the label came to be which features Lisa O’Neill, Ye Vagabonds and Brìghde Chaimbeul, all of whom have picked up BBC Folk Award nominations this year.

Brìghde Chaimbeul’s debut album The Reeling, released on the new River Lea label, is every bit as special in its own atmospheric way as its recent launch at Glasgow’s Celtic Connections.

Brighde Chaimbeul has announced that she will be launching her debut album ‘The Reeling’ at Celtic Connections 2019. It features Aidan O Rourke (Lau), Radie Peat (Lankum) and Rona MacDonald Lightfoot of South Uist.

The idea for this week’s folk show has been evolving since seeing Brìghde Chaimbeul (pictured) performing at Sidmouth Folkweek with Innes White. It’s a high-spirited mix including music from The Woods Band, Bothy Band, Shooglenifty and more.

Johnny shares some his favourite moments from Fairport’s Cropredy Convention this year including Steeleye Span, Gryphon, Ralph McTell, Demon Barbers, Brìghde Chaimbeul and many more…not forgetting Fairport Convention themselves of course.
