Big Thief
Buck Meek’s The Mirror is the work of a true American outsider, one who understands that creativity is always a collaboration and a lineage. Whether channelling dusty Texan country or something stranger and more introverted, Meek — aided by Big Thief bandmate James Krivchenia’s light-touch production — stretches these songs into unusual shapes without ever losing sight of their warm, beating hearts.
Buck Meek’s new album, The Mirror, arrives February 27, led by the frenetic single “Gasoline.” Directed by Noel Paul, the video highlights a collaborative spirit featuring James Krivchenia’s production. The record boasts an impressive cast, including Adrianne Lenker, Mary Lattimore, and Alex Somers, blending live energy with modular synths recorded at Meek’s Los Angeles log cabin, Ringo Bingo.
Big Thief’s Double Infinity was always going to be different. While it’s leaner than their last, its sonic range is wider. It is an album dedicated to corporeal impermanence, and to its flipside: love and its constant presence. It goes without saying that it’s big on ideas. It’s also big on melodic innovation and collaborative spirit. And most importantly, it’s a record with a gigantic heart.
