Bert Jansch

Part 2 of the Bert Jansch reissue, A Man I’d Rather Be from Earth Recordings covers four albums and a journey across 6 years, that takes Bert from style to style and from strength to strength.

A Man I’d Rather Be (Part I) is the latest Bert Jansch boxset release from Earth Recordings (26th January) covering his seminal 1960s output (alongside his only album as a duet with Pentangle bandmate John Renbourn).

Avocet Revisited, a four track EP, was commissioned by Earth Recordings as a companion piece to Bert Jansch’s 1979 avian-themed masterstroke ‘Avocet’ featuring Edwyn Collins and Carwyn Ellis, Modern Studies, Alasdair Roberts, Trembling Bells.

Earth Recordings have shared an unreleased Bert Jansch track with John Renbourn. The untitled instrumental (also our Tune of the Day) features on the forthcoming release Living In the Shadows, a release which covers one of the most prolific periods of Jansch’s life.

Recorded during Pentangle’s twelve-date 2008 reunion tour, Finale is a magnificent record in all respects. Treasure this set, for we’ll not see the like of Pentangle again. Out this week on Topic Records.

FINALE was recorded live during the 2008 Pentangle tour and sees the original line-up revisit their classic repertoire. The beautifully recorded and packaged 2CD set captures the band in a series of scintillating performances.

From the Outside is one for the Bert Jansch fans – fifteen songs delivered solo without any of the over-production and superfluous accompaniment that typified many 1980s albums by folk artists.

Earth Records announce the reissue of Bert Janch’s ‘From The Outside’ – listen to ‘River Running’, our Song of the Day and a track omitted from the original vinyl release.

Avocet is an album to get lost in, but not necessarily one you want to find your way out of. There is a strong case for saying it contains Jansch’s finest work. With any luck this reissue – stunningly packaged in Hannah Alice’s original artwork – will find its way to a new and appreciative set of listeners.

Featuring Martin Simpson, Karine Polwart, Robert Plant, Ryley Walker, Jacqui McShee and more, a Bert Inspired proved to be an excellent show, and a fitting tribute to a folk legend.

Anne Briggs is to give a rare interview at Celtic Connections as part of a special screening of ‘Acoustic Routes’, a film that charts the story of legendary guitarist Bert Jansch. We take a brief look back at their connection and lives.

Our Song of the Day is from Loren Auerbach alongside her husband and creative partner Bert Jansch with Snowflake. From ‘Colours Are Fading Fast’, due for reissue in 2016 on Earth Recordings.
