Glasgow-based singer and guitarist Alasdair Roberts has shared his latest single, ‘Eppie Morrie’, taken from his forthcoming new album Grief in the Kitchen and Mirth in the Hall, his fifth full-length collection of traditional folk songs.

Alasdair Roberts and Völvur’s “The Old Fabled River” is full of subtle mirrors, the dualism and continuity of life, pairs and opposites…a satisfyingly literary accomplishment, but also humane and wild and as vividly detailed as we’ve come to expect from anything Roberts is involved in.

Taken from Alasdair Roberts and Völvur’s collaborative album “The Old Fabled River”, watch Völvur’s solo rendition of their arrangement of “Nu solen går ned”, a Norwegian spiritual and an ancient traditional melody.

On 23 July, Drag City will release ‘The Old Fabled River’, a collaboration between Alasdair Roberts and the Norwegian group Völvur…a melding of Celtic and Scandinavian intuitions of culture and music. Our Song of the Day is “The Green Chapel”, the first single from ‘The Old Fabled River’, the forthcoming new album from Alasdair Roberts og Völvur, the initiative of Norweigian fiddler Hans Kjorstad which features five additional Scandinavian musicians.

On Fretted And Indebted, Alasdair Roberts brings focus to the traditional songs and singers that have inspired him and also illuminates some of his own considerable talents.

For their third cover single, Bill Callahan, and Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy are joined by Alasdair Roberts for their unique reimagining of Dave Rich’s Nashville gospel number “I’ve Made Up My Mind”.

While this won’t be the only album of reworked material recorded in 2020, the strength of Alasdair Roberts early work means it will certainly be one of the best.
