The Balky Mule is Bristol based Sam Jones, he recently performed to great tracks for the Brixton Sessions site covering summery versions of ‘Dust Bird Baths’ and ‘Wireless’, both taken from his 2009 album The Length of the Rail.

Quadron is a child that’s been made by Coco and Robin. Both were part of the soul collective “Boom Clap Bachelors” who in early 2008 secured much respect and success with their debut “Kort Før Dine Læber”. Here they began their collaboration, and Robin fell for Coco’s beautiful voice and ability to improvise with playful ease.

Futurebirds released their debut album, Hampton’s Lullaby, on Autumn Tone Records on 27th July. The label sum them up nicely: Covered in kudzu and swathed in a blanket of humidity, Spanish moss, feedback and reverb exists Futurebirds.

Grubby Little Hands hail from Philidelphia and released Imaginary Friends back in October last year. Despite having had an album out there for nearly a year they still seem to maintain a low profile. We were pleasantly surprised when we heard them and I’m sure Fukie fans out there will agree they have something special!

On a cloudy wet and dismal third day at the Pitchfork Festival the good folks at YT took it upon themselves to take Here We Go Magic to a more sheltered location where they performed the track Casual from their album Pigeons for Pitchfork TV. You can here more from Here We Go Magic on our Frukie stream from next week!

I know I only recently posted a live video of Sharon Van Etten, but how can I resist when she gets the Vincent Moon treatment over on La Blogotheque, I couldn’t wait. How he manages to capture so many artists I have no idea, but there is a magic about his camerawork that is unmatched. He went to New York to meet Sharon to do this piece.

Originally from Johannesburg, South Africa, Gregory Alan Isakov’s song-craft lends to the deepest lyrical masterpieces. With hints of his influences, Leonard Cohen, Iron and Wine and Kelly Joe Phelps, Gregory Alan Isakov has been described as “strong, subtle, a lyrical genius” and has shared the stage with touring artists such as Calexico, Ani Difranco, Brandi Carlile, Indigo Girls, Richie Havens, and Fiona Apple.

Sons of Noel Adrian, The Leisure Society and varied Willkommen support lay a course from Brighton to Bristol to Leeds, across to Manchester and finally to Kendal in the Lake District.

We’ve been catching up on news from some of our favourite artists today and came across this recent live performance by Sharon Van Etten. Sharon is due to release her second album in October titled Epic which will be a seven song collection. This video was filmed at the Legendary Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto and it’s one hell of a powerful performance.

Vincent Moon has given Mumford and Sons the Blogotheque treatment. With only an hour to spare, Moon set up whilst Mumford attempted to translate one of their songs as well as find a nearby filming location that hadn’t been used before. As always, they succeeded in pulling it off along with the help of Johnny Flynn improvising on violin! This was the result:

In 2008, the Aga Khan Music Inititative and the San Fracisco-based Kronos Quartet inaugurated a pioneering musical collaboration that brought the quartet together with leading musicians from Azerbaijan and Afghanistan to create music rooted Central Asian traditions. Seth Lakeman was the last person I expected to turn up in our local pub, The Oak, Clevedon. But after a phone call from a mate saying, “Alex, come to the Oake, Seth Lakeman is here, this isn’t a wind-up, honest!” I went, arrived, and there he was sat playing fiddle with Benji Kirkpatrick along with a discreet couple of film makers to record the video for Hearts and Minds.

Laura Marling performs Made By Maid exclusively for Later (BBC). The London new-folk favourite made her TV debut on the show in 2007.

La Blogotheque managed to get Megafaun and Sharon Van Etten together in Montreal for a great video session. The whole setting was quiet and peaceful, very unlike some of the other settings they contend with when filming. They were really keen to spend the afternoon with them and listen to their stories and drink coffee but they had to leave for Toronto.

I was meant to be going to see The Whale Watching tour in Bristol last weekend…I had a ticket! For one reason and another things just didn’t work out so I missed it. I’m slowly recovering as I also had tickets to see them at the Barbican which got cancelled due to the air flights problem. Not good.
