We recently had the pleasure of the company of Buck and Shanti Curran, better know as Arborea, who stayed with us for a night during their UK/European tour. They had just performed at the Grain Barge in Bristol with Two Wings (Hanna Tuulikki, Ben Reynolds, Kenneth Wilson, Lucy Duncombe, and Doog) in support. It was an exceptional evening. I’ll mention this more in a separate post.

Matador records are going all out with the launch of Belle and Sebastians forthcoming album Write About Love due out on October 12th. Last week saw the launch of the first in a series of televisual transmissions of varying sizes and shapes from Matador to mark the album’s impending release. Here’s the first one which features two new tracks from the album: “I Want The World To Stop” and “I …

Will Sheff of Okkervil River recently played a solo show at The Living Room in New York, during which he treated the crowd to two new songs “Walked Out On A Line” and “Lay of the Last Survivor” which you can watch below. His label, Jagjaguwar are not giving anything away on whether the songs will appear on the next Okkervil River record. Although I’d hazard a guess that there …

We recently posted about the release of Black Mountain’s new album Wilderness Heart. The band have just released a new video for “The Hair Song” which was directed by Zoe Bower and Simon Chan. It tells a great story based around those coming of age years that many of you may remember…how can you forget?…or you’re having those hassles right now such as being shut out of clubs and having …

Silje Nes was recently filmed by the fabulous Blogotheque in Toronto on her recent North American tour with DM Stith (see, I told you his name keeps cropping up), for one of their Take Away shows. Silje performs a wonderful, stripped-down, acoustic guitar, voice and viola rendition of the track Symmetry of Empty Space (taken from her forthcoming full-length Opticks). The sunshine and atmosphere was perfect for the song. They …

This has got to be one of the more amusing sessions recorded by Vincent Moon of La Blogotheque, not least because up until recording the session he was not convinced by Yeasayer. When he saw them perform in Brooklyn they puzzled him, when he heard them on record it was worse…but after all that the session turned into something no one was expecting. A joyous underground session followed by a …

Tasseomancy is a continuation of what was a bare bones neo-gothic folk duo. Formerly known as Ghost Bees, Sari and Romy Lightman have begun to experiment with heavier, ambient sounds, influenced by death ritual, hebraic song, war drums, ancestry and myth. The sisters recorded their second full-length this winter with producer Taylor Kirk and accompanying band, Timber Timbre. It will be released sometime before the next thaw.

We stumbled across The Loom thanks to the good folk at Brooklyn Vegan who covered a recent Mercury Lounge gig which featured The Loom and another Frukie favourite, Lost in Trees. The Loom describe themselves as a six-piece indie rock band from Brooklyn that features male/female vocals, horns, guitars, banjo, ukulele, keys, and percussion. All sounds very straightforward and humble, but they have been attracting a lot of attention since …

Matthew over at Song, By Toad has been making a great video diary of the Fence Collective’s Haarfest 2010. Needless to say, in typical Toad fashion things don’t always go according to plan. The Day Three video is below. There was a problem with the power supply and the workmen that turned up to fix it managed to spread the problem and then the gas board were called out…despite this …

Antony and the Johnsons have released a powerful new video to Thank You For You Love which we covered recently. The video is so open and honest, an expression of angst and refuge. Of suffering and pain, rejection and solace. Individuality amongst the fear of just that. The flash up of a sign stating: “Do You Want to Hurt Me?” summed it up for me…
