There will be many who have collected June Tabor’s recorded work over the years but for those who are perhaps less familiar with her work, this introduction is a grand way to discover one of the best voices of her era.
In 2010, Dick received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the BBC’s annual folk awards and whilst we may never see or hear Dick Gaughan perform live again, due to his ill health, this compilation CD is ample evidence, if evidence were needed, of what a terrific artist he is.
Whilst this sampler can be but a snapshot of John Tams work over the years and can only hint at his polymathic talents, it is a timely reminder of what a powerful songwriter he is and what a significant contribution he has made to the folk world.
