Megan Henderson of Breabach joins forces with Moana & The Tribe for their latest single ‘Maiea’, which features lyrics in both Māori and Gaelic. The accompanying video, which features Moana’s daughter, was filmed in New Zealand and Scotland.

This week’s Folk Show features a rich offering of British and Irish folk music. Throughout are a number of recordings from Topic Records’ widely-acclaimed and seminal traditional British folk music series Voice of the People.

In 2019, Fran Foote and her mother Belinda Kempster, released an album featuring English folk songs, one of which was “Knife in the Window” which Fran learned from her great uncle Ernie Austin who also recorded an album for Topic Records in 1974.

The A’s, featuring Amelia Meath and Alexandra Sauser-Monnig of Mountain Man have shared their latest single – a beautiful version of the Appalachian folk song ‘Wedding Dress’. 

Bristol Americana Folk singer Lady Nade heads out on her “Willing” Tour in October and will be joined by special guest Simeon Hammond Dallas who hails from London’s Camden Town.

On the 26th of August, old-time musician Nora Brown returns with her third album ‘Long Time To Be Gone’ on Jalopy Records. Recorded in St. Ann’s Church in Brooklyn Heights, listen to her playing Little Satchel, a banjo tune collected by John Cohen in 1965.

Wicklow-based musician Anna Mieke shares her new single ‘Twin’, her first new music in nearly two years. Watch the accompanying video by filmmaker V Haddad. She is currently putting the finishing touches to her second album, due for release later this year on Nettwerk.

This is a well-seasoned album for a debut, and The Canny Band’s nuanced musicianship suggests there are still many great things to come from this talented trio.

Taken from her new EP ‘You Thought You Knew’, Lindsay Lou has shared a new video for her rootsy Appalachian-tinged lead single ‘Don’t Go Back’ featuring a host of talented fellow musicians.

Marlais, the stage name of Michael Culme-Seymour, returns in July with a tape of folk songs “The Nightingales Are Drunk”. Watch him performing ‘My Bonny Boy’ inspired by Anne Briggs.
