The Big Mix music festival which is organised by Macmillan Cancer Support returns to Shoreditch, London this Saturday 18th June with an even bigger line-up of artists as well as comedy, fashion, cabaret and art.

Directed by Aaron Schock, the documentary film ‘Circo’ opens in the UK this month. Set within a century-old traveling circus, ‘Circo’ is an intimate portrait of a Mexican family struggling to keep their tradition alive.

As part of BRASS 2011 a lively genre busting annual festival held in Durham The Unthanks will unveil their latest collaboration with Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band. The project focuses on the folk songbook of the coal-mining industry.

The natural and organic acoustic space created by The innocence Mission’s ‘My Room in the Trees’ is a very solitary but warm place to be in. Violin, upright bass, baritone and nylon string guitars offer a gentle ambience to soak up Karen McCullough’s dreamy voice.

Our latest FRUK Session is from You Are Wolf, the pseudonym of London based composer and performer Kerry Andrew, who has just released her debut EP Hunting Little Songs. You Are Wolf is taking traditional folk and twisting it on its head to create a unique and new sound, stripped back to its bare bones.

Our latest guest mix is from Bellowhead whose theme is ‘No-Bread Circuses – a celebration of bands who, in defiance of all common sense, put their ability to make a big fat racket before other more practical considerations such as wage and logistical ease.’

The Gentle Good is the moniker of Gareth Bonello who hails from Cardiff. His latest album ‘Tethered for the Storm’ is an exceptional album that harkens back to the 60’s folk revival and is reminiscent of the likes of Nick Drake and Bert Jansch.

Vetiver’s forthcoming album The Errant Charm is due for release next Tuesday June 14th. They have released a new video for their new track Wonder Why which you can watch and download below.
